Founded on Principle
After working for larger fencing companies for over a decade, Michael Stevens saw too many corners being cut. Pressure to maximize profits led to rushed installations, inferior materials, and unsatisfied customers. He knew there was a better way.
In 2008, Michael founded Fency Home Designs with a different approach: focus on quality over quantity, use only premium materials, and build every fence as if it were for his own home. The company started with just Michael and a single helper, taking on one project at a time.
Building a Reputation
Quality work has a way of attracting attention. By 2010, most of our business came from referrals—homeowners recommending us to neighbors and friends. We hired our first full-time crew and began taking on larger residential projects.
During this period, we established relationships with premium material suppliers and began specializing in high-end cedar and ornamental fencing. Our commitment to using superior materials set us apart from competitors still focused on the budget market.
Growing to Meet Demand
Demand for our work outpaced our capacity. We expanded to three full installation crews and brought on Jennifer Martinez as Operations Manager to handle the increasing project load. We also began taking on commercial projects for property managers who appreciated our attention to detail.
This year marked our first major commercial installation—a luxury apartment complex that required ornamental fencing for the entire perimeter. The project's success opened doors to more commercial opportunities while we continued serving our residential client base.
Mastering Our Craft
We made a strategic decision to focus on what we do best: premium residential fencing and select commercial projects. Rather than compete on price in the budget market, we doubled down on quality, becoming the go-to choice for discerning homeowners and property managers.
We invested in advanced training for our crews, particularly in ornamental fencing installation and complex custom woodwork. David Chen joined as Lead Installer, bringing exceptional craftsmanship skills that raised our already high standards.
Industry Leadership
Our commitment to excellence was recognized when we received the Regional Craftsmanship Award from the American Fence Association. More importantly, our customer satisfaction scores reached all-time highs, with over 95% of clients rating their experience as "excellent."
We became preferred vendors for several luxury home builders and upscale property management companies. Our portfolio grew to include estate properties, country clubs, and high-end commercial developments.
Meeting New Challenges
Like many businesses, we faced supply chain challenges during this period. Our longstanding relationships with premium suppliers and commitment to maintaining material inventory ensured our projects stayed on schedule when competitors faced delays.
We also enhanced our design consultation services, bringing on Sarah Thompson to help clients visualize their projects and make confident decisions about materials and styles.
Continuing the Mission
